7 Challenges to Construction Defect Claims

On June 12th ForConstructionPros.com opined that “Whether a project is big or small, it seems inevitable that construction defect claims will surface. While the nature of these claims may vary, common patterns are generally present, and construction professionals would do well to understand the distinctions. Construction defect claims often fall into one of four categories: design defects, material defects, workmanship defects and subsurface defects. Several avenues are available to challenge all of these types of construction defect claims”.

Yarmus Engineering, P.C. is available to consult with developers, builders, contractors, property owners, managers, purchasers, condominium and co-operative associations, attorneys, insurance companies, and other related real estate professionals regarding their design, construction, and alteration projects, including the identification, documentation, and correction of any alleged or existing construction defects. As a Professional Engineer, NYS Certified Code Enforcement Official, and member of the Rockland County Home Improvement Contractor Licensing Board, firm president, Andrew R. Yarmus, P.E., F.NSPE, is experienced in dealing with such matters on behalf of typical involved parties.  Please contact our office if we can be of assistance to you or your clients regarding such matters.

Modular construction: From projects to products

In June McKinsey & Company opined that “For decades, construction has lagged behind other sectors in productivity. Modular construction offers the industry an opportunity to make a step change: shifting many aspects of building activity away from traditional construction sites and into factories with off-site, manufacturing-style production…Modular (or prefabricated) construction is not a new concept, but technological improvements, economic demands, and changing mind-sets mean it is attracting an unprecedented wave of interest and investment. If it takes hold, it could give the industry a huge productivity boost, help solve housing crises in many markets, and significantly reshape the way we build today”.

Yarmus Engineering, P.C. has decades of experience working with modular construction, including inspections and documentation of existing conditions, identification of deficient conditions and connections, the design of foundations for such structures, etc. Please contact our office if we can be of assistance to you or your clients regarding such matters.
